Port problems

I had chemo today.  No problems with the chemo itself.

I had a very slow “turtle start” because after many unsuccessful attempts they could not access either side of my dual port.  They put Cathflo/ Activase in each side and waited 30 minutes.  I had to get my labs drawn so I got 2 sticks one in each arms so I could send my labs off.  My brother met my oncologist which was good.  My outside port worked after 30 minutes and inside port worked as we were leaving. So good news. (However a reminder, I may have to get another access at some time in the future, if my port can not be fixed one day. Long term Avastin for maintenance will slow this process.). All that in the back of my brain for now, Today was a very good day!

  • I worked as a registered nurse in Critical Care for over 35 years. I retired in 2017. I am single, never married. I have one sister, one brother and I am an aunt. I love animals and nature, especially cats. My Siamese cat, Tiger is my constant companion and joy. I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in July 2015. I received debulking surgery at that time. I have been through chemotherapy a total of 3 times. I am receiving it now for pulmonary nodules which popped up on my CT scan in April and an area under my left diaphragm which is also positive for cancer. This is my 2nd reoccurence. No symptoms with this reoccurence or the reoccurence I had in 2018. (See what I mean by MY SNEAKY CANCER ) ?
