Time Away

Our view

My sister and I spent 5 nights in Ocean Isle, NC last week.  It was great to visit the ocean again!  The condo was definitely a home away from home, well stocked and comfortable.  Most of the time, the weather was sunny.  We saw dolphins on the first morning, I even got a short video of them.

We went to two Ingram Planetarium laser light shows over the weekend.  Our favorite was Stranger Things which I highly recommend!

We went on Ocean Isle pier midweek.  There was a brisk northeast wind blowing and it felt wonderful sitting on a bench, watching the surfers.  We grabbed a snack at their grill while we were there.  That was the best cheeseburger I have ever had!  I picked up a few souvenirs.  My favorite was a real starfish with sunglasses and a colorful bikini made with small added shells.  They have an extensive arcade.  We skipped that, maybe next time.

We went to Carolina Oprey in Myrtle Beach and saw the “Time Warp” show.  We enjoyed the great variety of 60’s, 70’s and 80’s tunes.  Too bad there have no CDs or DVDs available on site or online.

On the way, we visited Elijah’s restaurant in Wilmington.  They delivered the best customer service! My sister even persuaded the manager to give her their secret clam chowder recipe, her long time favorite there.  It is certainly worth spending an afternoon,  since if you choose to eat outside, the view of the river with boats cruising by is very relaxing.

Southern Gravy restaurant in Calabash, NC had delicious homestyle meals.  We had takeout  liver and onions, a longtime family favorite and a great number of sides to choose from.   Their freshly baked biscuits were soft and warm.

My sister drove to Holden Beach and picked up some treasures from the beach.  She is still sorting her new collection.

We ended our trip at Sarah’s Kitchen.  It was a rainy morning but they had covered seating outside.  A long whimsical Ocean mural was painted on the back wall which we enjoyed viewing.  On clear days, they sometimes have a band playing  outside and a community yard sale. Their Sunday brunch was delicious with great customer service. We will be tempted to take a daytrip and visit again.

We visited some wonderful friends on the way there and on the way back. We could not resist taking a few photos  It was great seeing them again!

Our view from Elijah’s.  How do you like my sunhat?
